How to prepare filter coffee at home like a professional barista

-

What do I need to make a good filter coffee at home? This is one of the most frequent questions we are asked in our filter workshops.

Here is a quick guide to prepare a good specialty coffee at home, you will see that you do not need such sophisticated equipment to make your own filter coffee.

Filtering method: There are several methods for preparing filter coffee, but the most popular are usually the V60, Aeropress and French press.

Filters: Depending on the method you choose, you will need specific filters. Paper filters are the most common, but reusable cloth filters are also available.

Grinder: A good grinder is essential to obtain a quality filter coffee. Choose a grinder, preferably manual or electric, which allows you to adjust the size of the grind. Avoid blade grinders, as they do not offer a uniform grind and can affect the extraction.

4. Scale: To obtain the best extraction, it is essential to measure both coffee and water. A digital scale will help you to be precise with the proportions, which will allow you to adjust the intensity of the coffee according to your preferences.

Kettle: Finally, you need a kettle, ideally with a gooseneck. This type of kettle will give you control over the pouring of the water, which is crucial for an even extraction. In addition, a kettle with temperature control will allow you to heat the water to the ideal temperature to extract the best from your coffee beans.
