NOMAD opens its first restaurant

SPECIALTY COFFEE - CATALAN CUISINE - NATURAL WINES

Gegant is a bet of the chef Joan Vallès, the sommelier Iván Fernández and Nomad Coffee.


 

This January we have raised the shutter of a project that excites us and motivates us deeply. It is called Gegant and it is a restaurant in which we have put a huge desire.


Although our appreciation for eating and drinking well had already materialized in the menu that we have been offering for a couple of years in our cafeteria Frutas Selectas, we wanted to go a step further. Gegant is a restaurant with all the letters, with a tablecloth, a menu and a sommelier.


"We want coming to eat at the Gegant to be a party," says Jordi Mestre. "Catering is a field in which we have always wanted to participate, but we have too much respect for it: we had to do it with the right people. With Joan and Iván at the helm we have found two great professionals, some of the ones we respect the most and who made us enjoy their previous projects the most. Gegant is a small but very big project for us, managed by people who have a lot of motivation to make our diners have a good time".


The chef, Joan Vallès, who has worked in iconic places in the city such as the restaurants Fermí Puig, Monocrom and Jordi Vilà's alkostat, signs a gastronomic proposal of illustrated Catalan cuisine with dishes such as esqueixada with onion and tomato confit, lentils stewed with quail, rock fish, bouillabaisse and potato in mortar, cap i pota with chickpeas, fricandó with perretxikos or a flan as the canons dictate. Vallès is assisted in the kitchen by Eloi Balcells.


The liquid part, chosen with mastery by the sommelier Iván Fernández, who ran the bar 035, in La Sagrera, from where he made natural wines shine, spreading them in a close and understandable way, thinking about the enjoyment for all audiences, from those who want to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine to those who are looking for a specific and coveted label, as he does in Gegant. The room is organized with Diego Meleiro and Olivia Baró.


Open at night and also at noon, when it is possible to enjoy a menu of first, second and dessert for 22,50€, with the good and the best of a recipe book chosen to satisfy not only the hunger, but the desire to take to the palate something exquisite and nutritious at the same time.


Escola Estudio, Malena Ramírez and Helena Santacana, our creative heads who are currently in charge of NOMAD's identity, in collaboration with Ferran Bretcha, have been involved in the design of Gegant. As for the space, illuminated table to table by the Olímpica lamps of Júlia Esqué, who has drawn the master lines of the interior design of the restaurant. Esqué has collaborated with NOMAD in other of our adventures, and this time she has left the stone walls bare, a symbol of the honest cuisine that we want you to enjoy as much as we do.
