History
- London, 2011
Jordi Mestre, founder of Nomad Coffee, had been working for two years in the best coffee shops in the city when he decided to put what he had learned into practice by setting up his own coffee cart. He became a nomadic barista, serving coffees in the most mythical street markets in London. That is how Nomad Coffee was born.

- Madrid, 2012
After a year dedicated to coffee cart in London, Jordi enters the National Barista Championship, reaching first place in the final in Madrid. A month later, under the guidance of his mentor Rob Dune, he placed 15th at the World Barista Championship in Vienna. This opens the door to his first job as a roaster at the Nude Coffee Roasters micro-roastery .
- Barcelona, 2013
Jordi wins the National Barista Championship in Spain for the second consecutive year and arrives at the Melbourne World Cup as the national representative. It's time to sell elcoffeecart fromLondon with the intention of transferring his experience to Barcelona.
- Barcelona, 2014
Nomad is established in Barcelona with the opening of NOMAD COFFEE LAB, a space where coffee is the only protagonist, thus pushing the wave of specialty coffee in the city.
Fran Gonzalez has been trained as a barista and that summer he joins the team as the first signing of Nomad, deciding that he wants to learn to roast with Jordi. Fran is now a partner and Head of Coffee at Nomad. At the same time, the first edition of the Cold Brew bottled at Nomad was launched.
Specialty coffee is beginning to have a space in the press and is making its way into the restaurant sector.

With the coffee wave booming in the city, we got our first wholesale customers. We started supplying coffee and sharing our experience through consulting and training.
In order to respond to this new service, we opened ROASTER'S HOME in Poblenou, our first location.
This becomes not only a roastery open to the public, but also a space where tastings and courses open to anyone who wants to learn about coffee are programmed.
Cold Brew is the star of the summer and Xavi Navas is at the controls of the production.

With the roastery up and running and the business settling in, we were able to travel to origin with Falcon Coffee and Richard Williams, Jordi's first mentor.
These trips reaffirm the importance of supporting producers and show us the great support and training that importers offer them. They will be the first of many.

We opened our third location, NOMAD EVERY DAY, located in the center of Raval. Here we allow ourselves to experiment with coffee and, in addition to serving perfect espressos, we dare to offer signature drinks and play with food and ice cream, one of our favorite allies.

We like to think that our growth has been organic and responsible, responding to needs and taking advantage of opportunities. In 2017 we are presented with the option to get our hands on a refurbished and upgraded German Probat UG22 toaster with new roasting, gas, airflow and flame control devices.
This addition helps us to increase our production and consequently we can serve more customers while maintaining our standards.
We are strongly committed to Cold Brew dispensers , not only in our premises but also on request of our customers. This is a service that today is offered only in Nomad thanks to Xavi's determination and tireless effort.
- Barcelona, 2018
The improvements of the previous year consolidated us as roasters in the national market and we also began to expand. Nomad Coffee begins to have presence in coffee shops in the rest of Europe, USA, China, Korea or Canada, among others.
Standardizing quality and increasing even more professionalism are the goals for 2018, which is why we developed and established our Quality Control protocols and positions.

At this point, Nomad Coffee has a team of more than 20 people. A young team, trained in-house, very talented and enthusiastic about the world of coffee. With roles that we would not have imagined years ago, such as an account and logistics manager or even an art director.
We continue to travel whenever we can, not only to the origin but also to consumer countries, to participate in fairs and tastings. Thanks to this we have been able to publicize our project and make very good alliances in the sector.

- Barcelona, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to close the premises temporarily. We decided to focus our efforts on connecting with our customers through our website, which we relaunched with different sections, content and languages. This has allowed us to bring our coffee to everyone, even in the most difficult moments.
We start a new project, PA DE KILO, with Oswaldo Brito; good bread is already among us.

Proud of the result of a difficult year, we decided to show all the work behind the menu of Nomad and presented our first TRANSPARENCY REPORT.
In this report we highlight the respect we have for the work of producers and ask ourselves how we can make our sector more sustainable.
This year we also released video content, tutorials, recipes and coffee presentations on Youtube, web and social networks by the hand of our CQ Ivette Vera.

Following the trend of the previous year, we ventured to create a new space in our old roastery. We created Frutas Selectas, to which, in addition to specialty coffee, we added bread, cuisine, fruits and vegetables of proximity.

- Milan 2021
In 2021 we resumed our presence at events after COVID-19. The first was the World of Coffee, which that year was held in Milan. We did a tandem with La Marzocco and we also had the opportunity to do a pop-up at NOWHERE, now also roasters.

The Coffee Academy.

- First Can of Cold brew
Our cold brew has gone through all types of packaging: from glass bottles with metal seals and screw-top bottles, to glass flasks and 2 and 5 liter carafes. But the can has always been our goal.
After many tests carried out by Xavi Navas, the roasting team and the quality team, we launched our first cold brew can. We called it Splash! and communicated it with a campaign that could have been the song of the summer.

- Close Every Day, we focus on B2B.
Everyday was born with a mission, to satisfy customers who want to find coffee NOMAD also on weekends. Until now, we only served coffee on weekdays, both at the Coffee Lab and at the Roaster's home. Exactly, that's why "every day".
With this coffee shop we got the attention of tourists, who also wanted to enjoy a specialty coffee, without such a concrete experience as the one offered at the Coffee Lab. Hence we dared with new drinks, such as frapuccino or affogatto.
NOMAD Every Day was active for 6 years, from 2016 to 2022. We transferred it at its best moment, for two clear reasons. The first is that we moved to our new Cal roastery NOMAD and we needed to put all the energy here. Second, we wanted to focus on Business to Business.

In 2023, we launched the first instant specialty coffee in Spain. The objective? To enjoy a delicious coffee, in the fastest and most convenient way, but improving the formula of what until now we knew as instant coffee.
To do this, the coffee beans had to be of high quality, so we chose Chambakú coffee, grown in Caldas (Colombia), at 1,450-1,600 meters above sea level by Juan Felipe Restrepo, one of our flagships. Instant coffee NOMAD COFFEE is available with and without caffeine.

- Second toaster
In 2018 we saw that our beloved Roaster's home was starting to get too small. We posed two scenarios; did we want to bet on exclusivity or keep growing? We opted for the second, so from that moment, we spent two years looking for a warehouse where to move.
After much searching, almost going to Badalona, we found in 2020 what is currently our second toaster: Cal Nomad, in carrer Marroc in the Poblenou neighborhood.
At that time all that area of the neighborhood was half done although, luckily, we knew how to see the advantages that this space offered us for its amplitude. It was the ideal place to house the roastery, our offices, the warehouse and also the tastings and training sessions.
The renovation took a year and a half, the time needed to do all the work required for our growth plan. In fact, we went from one roastery to two in 2023.
- Nomad in Korea 2nd time
In 2023, we are going back to Korea! Jordi, together with Rebeca from the roasting team, traveled to Seoul with the help of Wynyard. In the coffee show that was organized in the country, we stood out with a stand designed by Escola. During those days, a unique opportunity arose for NOMAD: here was born NOMAD Coffee Korea.
- Nomad in Los Angeles
We're going to Los Angeles! Play Coffee, the best ambassador of our coffee in the city, invited us to their house for a pop up. During those days, with Laura Coe, from the roasting team at the helm, we strengthened ties with his team and managed to make our brand a little better known in Los Angeles.

We decided it was time to create a uniform in line with the uniqueness and excellence we demand from our baristas in every cup they serve.
The Bastida design studio, focused on the development of high-end textile products and workwear, produced in Barcelona and with materials of lower environmental impact; were in charge of devising the new workwear for our team behind the bar.
A minimalist design with a single embellishment, the side straps, which offer a functional way to adapt the garment to different body types by means of buttons on the inside.

- The family grows
New structure and new additions: account managers, area manager, cfo, HHRR, head of sales, roastery manager, etc.
With the idea of continuing to improve in all aspects, we decided it was time to expand the family and create a new structure to go to the next level. In addition, new roles such as account managers, area manager, cfo, HHRR, head of sales, roastery manager, etc. are incorporated.
- Nomad turns 10 years old
The last decade has been decisive for the specialty coffee industry: the boom in roasters, coffee shops and consumer interest has been spectacular. In addition, just in February 2024 NOMAD COFFEE celebrated its tenth anniversary, so we took the opportunity to take a look back at the key moments we have experienced both in the industry and in the company.
