Our roaster Laura Coe wins the Spanish Brewers Cup 2025

SCA SPAIN - LAURA COE - BREWERS

Preparing filtered coffee by hand is an art that combines knowledge, sensitivity and technique. At Nomad we have always lived it this way, and we are proud to see that the formula works: our colleague Laura Coe has won the Spanish Brewers Cup 2025, a competition organized by the Specialty Coffee Association Spain (SCA) that recognizes the best barista in the country in methods such as V60, Kalita or Aeropress.

The competition consists of two very demanding phases:

- Compulsory Round, in which participants must prepare an unknown coffee (provided by the organization) using only their experience and judgment to extract the best from it.

- Open Service Round, where each barista chooses his or her own coffee and filtering method, makes a live presentation to the jury and defends his or her proposal based on knowledge, communication and staging.

For this presentation, Laura chose a blend of Maragesha and Gesha from Colombian producer Wilder Lazo(@wilderlazocoffee), which she prepared using double filters from @sibarist.coffee, designed exclusively for the competition. A precise and elegant combination that allowed him to stand out for its clarity, expression and technical mastery.

For her, the challenge was technical, emotional and human. "This type of championship requires much more than just knowing how to prepare a good coffee: you have to connect, share, explain and excite," she tells us.

The road to the final was not easy, and the support of the team has been key. "Being able to train with my coach Andres, a partner at Nomad, has been essential to perfect every detail."

His next stop will be Jakarta (Indonesia), from May 15 to 17, where he will represent Spain at the World Brewers Cup 2025.
