Module One: Introduction to Coffee and Roasting
-A brief introduction to specialty coffee and the journey of coffee from origin to cup.
-What it means to roast coffee, why it is necessary, and what changes occur during the process.
-An introduction to the main components of a roaster and how it works.
-Heat sources and methods of heat transfer: conduction, convection, and radiation.
-Basic concepts of safety, cleaning, and maintenance of a roaster.
Block Two: Understanding the Roasting Process
-Main stagesof roasting: charge temperature, turning point, drying, yellowing, Maillard reactions, caramelization, first crack, development, discharge temperature, and cooling.
-What chaff is, how it is released during roasting, and why it is important to remove it properly.
-Key variables: amount of coffee, time, temperature, heat or flame, and airflow.
-What is ROR (Rate of Rise), how to interpret it, and what it tells us about the progression of the roast.
-Roast levels and how they influence the color, aroma, and final flavor of the coffee.
-Manual recording of times, temperatures, and key moments to construct and understand a roast curve.
Block Three: Your First Roast
-Preparing the roaster and green coffee before starting.
-Direct participation in a guided small-batch roast.
-Observing the changes in color, aroma, size, and sound that the coffee undergoes.
-Identifying the key stages of the process and recording the roast curve by hand.
-Comparing coffees at different stages of development to recognize their differences.
-Guidance on resting, storing, and brewing coffee after roasting.
-At the end, you’ll take home a sample of the coffee roasted during the session and the record you created to help you remember and understand the entire process.

The “Basics of Coffee Roasting I” course takes place at our “ Roaster ” located at Carrer Marroc 160, 08019 Barcelona.
You don’t need any prior knowledge or a coffee roaster at home. During the session, you’ll participate in a guided roasting, and at the end, you’ll take home a sample of the roasted coffee and the handwritten log you created during the practical session.
To ensure your safety during the hands-on portion, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.

Terms and Conditions
At The Coffee Academy, we strive to offer a high-quality learning experience to all participants. However, we reserve the right to reschedule the course date or issue a full refund if the minimum attendance of 4 people is not met. We are committed to your satisfaction and will do everything possible to accommodate your needs and ensure you get the most out of your experience with us.
Cancellation and Punctuality Policy
When you purchase a course, your spot is automatically reserved. This means that if you do not attend, you may be preventing other interested people from participating. Therefore, we enforce the following policy:
-If you notify us of a cancellation between 15 days and 48 hours before the course, a 50% penalty will apply, and 50% of the total amount will be refunded.
-No refunds will be issued if you do not attend the course or if you notify us of your cancellation less than 48 hours in advance.
-Once the course date has been set, no changes may be made, except in cases of force majeure, such as illness or accident.
-In duly justified cases of force majeure, a spot will be offered in the next available session of the course. This change may only be made once. If you do not attend on the new date, no refund will be issued.
Clarification: Cancellation penalties do not apply in justified cases of illness or accident. In these situations, you may reschedule your participation according to the conditions indicated above.
Punctuality
We ask that you arrive on time for the course. We will allow a 5-minute grace period. If you arrive more than 15 minutes after the start time, you will not be admitted, out of respect for the other participants and to ensure the class runs smoothly. We appreciate your understanding.
