- Types of coffee and the impact of origin and processing.
- Impact of roasting on solubility and density.
- Degassing of roasted coffee.
- Workflow: Setup of coffee accessories and equipment when working in pairs.
- Espresso: Grinder models and types of burrs, dosing, distribution, and tamping techniques. Intensity and extraction in espresso preparation, use of a refractometer, and drink construction.
- Sensory analysis of espresso: Body and texture, and use of the SCA flavor wheel.
- Water quality.
- Milk: Composition and product spoilage, quality and stability, plant-based alternatives, steaming techniques, SCA crema standards, and latte art.
- Cleaning, health, and safety.
- Customer interactions, costs, and inventory.
The SCA exam and official certification are already included in the price.
The intermediate barista course takes place at our Roaster , located at Carrer Marroc 160, 08019 Barcelona.

Terms and Conditions
At The Coffee Academy, we strive to provide a high-quality learning experience for all our students. However, we reserve the right to reschedule the course date or refund the full course fee if attendance falls below two participants. We are committed to your satisfaction and will do everything possible to accommodate your needs and ensure you get the most out of your experience with us.
Cancellation and Punctuality Policy
When you purchase a course, your spot is automatically reserved. This means that if you do not attend, you may be preventing others who are interested from participating. Therefore, we enforce the following policy:
- A 50% penalty will apply if you cancel with less than 15 days’ notice or within 48 hours of the course start time. In that case, only 50% of the total amount will be refunded.
- No refunds will be issued if the student does not attend the course or if the cancellation is communicated less than 48 hours in advance.
- Once the course date has been set, no changes may be made, except in cases of force majeure such as illness or accident.
- In cases of force majeure (illness, accident, etc.), the student will be offered a spot in the next session of the course. This change may only be made once. If the student does not attend on the new date, no refund will be issued.
Clarification: The cancellation policy does not apply to illnesses or accidents. In such cases, the student may reschedule their participation as indicated above.
Punctuality
We ask that you arrive on time for the course. We will allow a 5-minute grace period before the start. Fifteen minutes after the start time, entry will not be permitted, out of respect for the other participants and to ensure the smooth running of the class. We appreciate your understanding.
