IS THE PUCK PREP IMPORTANT FOR MAKING ESPRESSO?

-

Have you ever seen your trusted barista carefully arranging the coffee in the portafilter before preparing your coffee?

This is known as the preparation of our coffee pod to make an espresso, this is important to obtain a correct, uniform extraction and thus be able to replicate a recipe consistently.

The idea is to achieve a perfectly compacted, horizontal and homogeneous coffee bean, avoiding lumps, inclinations or any irregularity in the bean that could affect our extraction, since these irregularities can generate that parts of the coffee are less extracted than others, leaving us with a final beverage with less body and with sour and salty flavors in our coffee.

There are several tools and techniques that help us to do this, such as WDT, spring-loaded tampers, distributors, etc. All of these are specifically designed to accommodate the coffee bed or break those possible lumps.

If you want to be able to make quality espressos in a consistent and simple way, we invite you to sign up for our Espresso Workshop, here we will teach you all about the relevant parameters and a correct technique to prepare espressos.
